According to court documents obtained by Today, Linda filed the paperwork August 22, listing their date of separation as July 17 and citing reason irreconcilable differences.
She also asked for spousal support while requesting her requirement to provide spousal support be waived.
The pair first met in college at Eastern Michigan University and dated for four years before getting engaged. The former couple tied the knot in June 1985 and welcomed four children together: Jade, 39, Camara, 36, Greg Jr., 35, and Amir, 34.
In recent years the TV judge thanked his family and now former wife for all the sacrifices they made that led to his success.
“The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is certainly my highest professional achievement. But I got to say, it was really my family that was the foundation of my success,” he said during his 2022 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. “After coming out of the streets in Detroit, Linda allowed me to work 15 hours a day, five, six days a week. So it’s that support that allowed me to pursue the success that you see.”
“Our love and support runs deep. That’s how the Mathis family rolls,” Linda added.
