Ann excitedly embarked on the next chapter of her life, moving into a new apartment with her boyfriend, Josh. However, as they began cohabitating, Ann discovered unsettling aspects of Josh’s reliance on his mother for everything. Despite their two-year “forever” kind of love, the move-in day took an unexpected turn.
Amidst the celebratory pizza and beer, Ann asked Josh to clear the food and assist in unpacking, only to learn that Josh expected his mother to handle all his chores. His belief that “a woman should do these things” and his offer to pay Ann to be his maid became a major red flag for Ann.
Torn between the realization that Josh was a man-child unwilling to change and the desire for a more equal partnership, Ann texted her mom in the night, deciding to return home in the morning. With her parents’ support, Ann gathered her essentials, left while Josh slept, and never looked back.
Returning to her parents’ home, Ann shared her experience, and with her mom’s assistance, retrieved the rest of her belongings from the apartment. Josh, still unpacked and playing games on his laptop, was confronted by Ann’s straightforward message: “You’ve got to grow up. I can’t be with someone who wants me to be their Mom at home.” Despite Josh’s denial, Ann closed the door on their short-lived chapter, choosing maturity and equality over a one-night living arrangement.
